53 ECNL ALUMNI PARTICIPATE IN 2024 CONCACAF WOMEN’S GOLD CUP FOR 11 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

RICHMOND, Va. - In this year’s inaugural 2024 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, 53 ECNL alumni were on rosters for 11 different countries, including 13 former ECNL athletes who helped the United States lift the inaugural CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup Championship following their 1-0 victory over Brazil on Sunday, March 10.

19-year-old Jaedyn Shaw (FC Dallas) led the way for the Americans with four goals, good for third overall in the tournament, and was awarded the Golden Ball as the player of the tournament.

Overall, 34 different ECNL clubs were represented by alumni throughout the tournament, with seven different alumni scoring goals. In addition, 19 ECNL alumni appeared in the semifinal round of the competition.

Korbin Albert, Sam Coffey, Emily Fox, Jaedyn Shaw, Sophia Smith, and Trinity Rodman appeared in all six matches for the Americans. In addition to the four goals scored by Shaw, Jenna Nighswonger scored two goals for the Americans, while Sophia Smith also scored.
 

 ARGENTINA

Sophia Braun started in all four of Argentina’s matches, helping the Argentinian defense secure clean sheets against Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
 

 COLOMBIA

Angela Baron (DKSC)


After helping lead Colombia to the knockout stages of last summer’s Women’s World Cup, Angela Baron started in Colombia’s 2-0 win over Puerto Rico, before coming on as a substitute in Colombia’s quarterfinal game against the United States.
 

 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The Dominican Republic was full of former ECNL athletes, as their 11 players were behind only the United States for the most of any country. Giovanna Dionicio, Paloma Pena, and Brianne Reed started in all three games for the Dominican Republic, while Mia Asenjo, Renta Mercedes, Stella Tapia, and Jaylen Vallecillo all started two games. Nadia Colon and Jazmin Jackson also earned a start, with Angelina Vargas making an appearance as a substitute.
 

 EL SALVADOR

Fisher and Fuentes scored El Salvador’s two goals in the tournament, both coming in the second half of their final game against Paraguay. 
 

 GUATEMALA

Giselle Samayoa made an appearance as a substitute in Guatemala’s playoff qualifying match against El Salvador.
 

 GUYANA

Anya Tribune started for Guyana in their playoff qualifying match against the Dominican Republic.
 

 HAITI

Deborah Bien-Aime started for Haiti in their playoff qualifying match against Puerto Rico.
 

 MEXICO

Mexico made it to the tournament's semifinals, with Diana Ordonez and Nicollete Hernandez scoring goals in the group stage win over the Dominican Republic. Hernandez along with Kiana Palacios each made four starts for Mexico, while Kimberly Rodriguez Cubero, Diana Ordonez, and Karina Rodriguez also all appeared in the starting lineup. Reyna Reyes made three appearances for the team as a substitute.
 

 PANAMA

Carina Baltrip-Reyes, Katherine Parris, and Riley Tanner all appeared in every game for Panama, each making two starts while coming on as substitutes in the opener against Colombia.

Led by Nickolette Driesse who captained the team in all three games, Puerto Rico had the third most former ECNL athletes on their roster with 10—along with Driesse, Amber DiOrio, Sarah Martinez, and Sydney Martinez also started in all of Puerto Rico’s games. In addition, Bryana Pizarro made two starts for the team, while Kennedy Garcia, Ashley McMahon, Jazmine Mendez, and Skylinn Rodriguez appeared as substitutes.
